This page shows some books that Crispin Sexi has bound in various attemts at medieval and renassance styles. Mostly just the finished books.
Brown leather on wood with brass mounts hammered from sheet. Strap and pin closure. Blind tooled.
Same book from the other side.
Brass clasps I made from plate and wire. Unfortunately I don't have a picture from the finished book.
I bound up Ravenscroft's three books of rounds in the style of a binding from 1630 that I bought in York.
The cover is grey card rather than wood. I did some subtle blind tooling, though it has not come out very well.
Inside showing printed music and headband.
The first book I ever made. I used washers and furniture tacks to approximate the look of mounts from period bindings. No endbands because I had not figured those out. But I did use a piece of music I wrote as the endpapers, which was the whole point of learning bookbinding in the first place...
Pewter mounts on a green leather with wooden boards. I bought these mounts from Sir Sebastian.
Other face.
Headband.
The paper was made from cotton by Lorrix. The warping is mostly due to how I treated the paper with geletine... maybe a roller would have helped the drying process! I liked the deckle edge, so very little trimming of the paper.
